Best practices in Hybrid/Blended Learning in Biomanufacturing
Mike Fino is a professor and coordinator for the Biotechnology Program at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, CA. Mike has degrees in bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego, and, for eight years, worked in various bioprocess engineering capacities from research, product development, and manufacturing support for tissue engineered medical products. In 2004, Mike joined MiraCosta to develop a new Bioprocess Technology program that addresses the skills and knowledge required for development and production technicians where traditional laboratory techniques meet the impact of scale, regulation, and process control. To contact Mike, please visit the program website at www.miracosta.edu/biotech.
This interactive panel discussion will explore some best practices in developing courses that blend online plus in-person teaching and learning. The goal of this blended format is to maximize the student value of in-person contact to focus on skill development and essential experiential learning while moving traditional lecture and discussion to a flexible, online format. Examples of blended classes will include biostatistics and bioprocessing and, for those interested, examples of fully online classes will be available as well (data analysis with Excel and regulatory practices).
