ELISA
Bill Woodruff is the director of the Biotechnology Program at Alamance Community College in Graham, NC and the Southern Alliance Hub director for NBC2.
The ELISA assay is one of the most widely used of the immunological assays. In this 3 hour hands-on workshop we will explore the mechanism of action, the theoretical concepts and real-world applications of this useful tool. In a scenario designed to catch the interest of your students, we will use the assay to follow a communicable disease as it is passed from individual to individual within a community. In much the same way that epidemiologists investigate epidemics, we will be able to follow the trail of infection to determine within 2 participants (or students) the source of our outbreak.
